THE MANNING TRIAL

 

 No, it is not a trial for two brothers that play football in the NFL; it is the upcoming trial of an Army corporal (Bradley Manning) who allegedly released thousands of classified documents to Wilileaks in 2010.  Go to http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/26/bradley-manning-wikileaks-aiding-the-enemy_n_1456959.html to read all the pretrial maneuvers now under way on the part of the defense team supporting the young Army man.

 

The defense position seems to reflect a strategy that Manning did NOT intend to “aid or abet the enemy” by releasing the material for public exposure.  He was only trying to “get the truth out” concerning a war to which he objected.

 

He faces 22 separate charges related to his various offenses and faces life in prison if found guilty.

 

I wonder if this is going to turn into another “Pentagon Papers” type public event.
