Year of the Grassroots Rebellion
Time Magazine announced today that hacktivist group Anonymous will be placed on its "100 Most Influential People in the World" list. This isn't the first time the magazine has bestowed an award amongst a decentralized group; it's quite reminiscent of its decision in 2006 to deem "You" the person of the year. Barton Gellman didn't go into any real detail regarding the choice to include Anonymous, but he listed the organization's involvement in various activities and their supposed enemies, which now include "Arab dictatorships, the Vatican, banking and entertainment firms, the FBI and CIA, the security firm Stratfor and even San Francisco's BART transport system."
